'Year
End Thoughts…

President
George W. Bush (right) proved himself worthy while Congressman Gary Condit proved
himself unworthy - California had an energy crisis that simply disappeared -
the stock market was unsure of its self - Osama or Usama which ever you prefer,
is allegedly responsible for the biggest mass destruction in US history and
yet his name was bandied about as Man of the Year for Time Magazine - New York
Mayor Rudy Giuliani gained newly deserved respect as a leader and all around
human being - Hillary Clinton showed her true colors…once again - Yasser Arafat
does not want peace (you can quote me) - Santa Claus and the greeting "Merry
Christmas" was banned in select cities and institutions (insane but true)…
News-wise, the airwaves have beamed us many a soap opera. In fact, we are so bombarded with news that reflects art that it is becoming difficult to separate the two. However, because of some radical and bizarre news of the past year it seems to have gotten the attention of folks who normally were not politically aware. People are getting involved. They are speaking out more, listening and phoning talk radio shows, showing up at local council meetings, writing opinion letters to their newspapers, etc. Finally!
For
awhile I was beginning to lose heart, thinking everyone was so busy with their
own lives that they were just going to watch America disintegrate before their
eyes. Since the toppling of the Twin Towers, the attack on the Pentagon plus
the downed airliner in Pennsylvania (all in a matter of hours), my faith in
the "American-spirit" has been renewed. People do care. People rise to the occasion
when circumstances dictate. I was so moved seeing how each of us was deeply
affected in our own personal way. Beyond ourselves, our hearts went out to virtual
strangers who felt like they were part of our own families. I am so proud of
how the country united. UNITED WE STAND! We became very American, very quickly.
The sight of the American flags flying high on vehicles, businesses and homes
and signs that read God Bless America, brought/bring tears to these patriotic
eyes. (Keep the flag flying)(Beware, there is still a strong counterculture
at work).
We discovered new heroes that were there all the time - firemen and police officers. How many of you have had the urge to hug a fireman. I had that experience today as I watched several fire trucks race to a fire in Burbank, California. (It would be nice if we all took a holiday treat to our local fire stations to let them know they are appreciated). We are a changed people. Dr. Lloyd Ogilvie, Chaplain of the Senate said he has had more members of Congress ask him about God in the seven days after 9/11 than he has had in the last seven years. God takes the things that were meant for evil and uses them for good.
This year, 2001, was the official beginning of the New Millennium. It brought about radical changes that are escalating at a rapid pace. And we will be subject to many more unpredictable and uncomfortable changes as the months and years roll by. One thing is sure, we've got the "American-spirit" to handle what ever comes our way - even the fast-track to global-rule - even the lack of common sense and insane rules and regulations that are being forced on us daily. When all is said and done - God has the Master Plan!
That's all she wrote… see ya next year.
GOD'S BLESSINGS FOR A HEALTHY, HAPPY AND PROSPEROUS 2002 ***
