AND THE RAPE GOES ON …

Timothy Rollins - Beneath the Surface What is it these days? Just when you think things cannot possibly get any worse for the Catholic Church – especially in America, guess what? It does – and in spades, no less. Millions of American Catholics have had their faith shattered and understandably so – not because there are rogues in their congregations molesting fellow parishioners, but because the molesters are turning out to be the priests themselves.

Cardinal Bernard Law (AP)Do not get me wrong here: Most Catholic priests are fine, decent honorable men who have chosen the priesthood as an honorable vocation and as a means of making a difference in the world; they sincerely and earnestly seek to leave the world a better place than when they entered it. However, with molestations having come out of the closet in the 1970’s (and even before) and being quietly bought off with their silence (to include standard nondisclosure clauses) and slowly growing to the point of its present eruption with many of them being traced to having occurred under the watch of Boston’s Cardinal Bernard Law (right), who knowingly and deliberately transferred these rogue priests from one parish to another within the diocese or even out of the diocese without having the decency of either warning the priest’s superiors or parishioners of their past proclivities.

Now that Law has been named to be deposed for a civil action against the diocese, there are rumors that Law – one of the Pope’s ‘golden boys’ is possibly headed for a transfer to the Vatican where he will be out of the reach of U.S. Law. What should happen at this point is that the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office should seize any and all passports (both U.S. and Vatican) Law may have in his name and hold them until the deposition and any and all subsequent legal matters are settled once and for all. Such action will prevent him from leaving the country and allow the victims and their families to have their day in court and ensure that the Church is held accountable for the misconduct of their rogue priests. In addition, the D.A.'s office should also initiate and impose a travel ban preventing Law from leaving the country until this matter is settled once and for all. If that means mounting an ankle bracelet on Law to restrict his movements, so be it.

American Catholics – particularly young boys – have been subject to actions that no person should have had to suffer; many of them have either suffered through this abuse firsthand, or are the parents or siblings of those who have had to endure this private hell – a hell that no amount of therapy can ever really completely heal, despite what the experts may think.

Why has this happened one may ask? Now I am only supposing here – call this a WAG (Wild-A** Guess - a term from my military days 25 years ago) if you want, but the forced celibacy has over the last 40-50 years either attracted or fostered a homosexual subculture within the ranks of some within the Roman Catholic priesthood that has now come back to bite them on the butt. Even some of the American Cardinals admitted this in one of the press conferences a couple of weeks ago in Rome when they were summoned to see the Pope. Their initial meetings with the press promised a “one-strike” and you’re out rule; subsequent machinations by those within the papal hierarchy set in motion a bureaucratic process that keeps all but the most predatory priests in their ministry. Sounds to me like some senior Vatican officials are exploiting the Pope’s frail health and are using that as a means of either squeezing through their own agenda or to cover up their own crimes committed while serving in the United States. Inasmuch as the Vatican does not have an extradition treaty with Washington, they will continue to enjoy an immunity of sorts as long as they stay within the papal enclave.

NAMBLA Co-Founder and Priest Paul Shanley (AP)This homosexuality subculture has come to yet another head when Middlesex County District Attorney Martha Coakley announced the arrest Thursday in California of retired priest Paul Shanley (left) who is now 71 and living in San Diego. Shanley (no surprise here, folks) was assigned to the Boston archdiocese under Cardinal Bernard Law. The victim who filed the complaint with the D.A.’s office was in the process of a civil action with the archdiocese when it was determined that there was cause for a criminal action as well. In custody in San Diego’s County Jail, Shanley has waived extradition and may be headed back to Boston as soon as Wednesday to stand trial. Perhaps he can be John Geoghan’s cellmate. Geoghan is currently serving a 10-year sentence for his crimes. Even better, perhaps they can be integrated with the general population. Everybody just knows how low on the food chain chicken hawks (i.e., child molesters) are held by the general population. They might last perhaps … 20, maybe 25 minutes. Not that the world will mourn them – I know I certainly won’t.

As a former Catholic myself, I remember one of the two parish priests assigned to my last parish before I left Catholicism – one was a Senior – as in his sixties, and the other was youthful – as in his late twenties. The senior priest and I got along fairly well – polite yet professional, he kept something of a distance to where he was helpful but not overly involved in the lives of his parishioners; the younger priest made me feel uneasy as he seemed to attract a ‘following’, and that is a quality in anyone that has always made me feel uneasy regardless of who it is or may be. Within the last few months, I found out from my eldest sister that one of my brothers (the one everyone thought was a little ‘off’) had been molested by the younger priest, confirming my suspicion that something about the guy wasn’t right, even though I didn’t know what it was at the time.

The connection between and the rape of young boys by rogue priests in America’s Catholic churches has regrettably become as common as Mom and apple pie; said connection can no longer be denied – even by those ardent defenders of America’s homosexual community. Information learned from the arrest of Father Shanley led to the disclosure that he was present in Boston at the 1979 meeting and was one of the founding members of the North American Man-Boy Love Association (NAMBLA), an organization which I not only called for the destruction of in a previous column, but an organization I feel should have its members exterminated by whatever means possible. Say what you want about capital punishment, but any organization whose members espouse the motto “Sex before eight or it’s too late” are unworthy of the greatest gift of all – life itself and their execution cannot come soon enough! Some may see my view on this matter as extreme, but the fact of the matter is that the members of this life-destroying organization should be hunted down and terminated – just lock these animals up with the general population and let nature take its course. I defy anyone to find the parent of a young child to disagree with me. After all, its opponents can cry all they want, but cultivating repeat offenders is not one of capital punishment's inherent drawbacks!

Call it a public service if that's what it takes to make the idea palatable to the public. If the Loony Left doesn’t like it, ask them how they would feel about one of their children being molested by a priest or other adult in a position of authority – especially one from a group they espouse such fanatical support of.

It is time for this madness to stop! If it takes putting in place legislation permitting capital punishment for this offense, then more power to them, for that is what our children need. If individual states don’t pass said laws, then withhold federal funding for purposes of law enforcement. Such action is not unprecedented as the Feds have done this over both the 55 mile per hour speed limit and the raising of the drinking age back to 21.

This abuse cannot stop soon enough and whatever action is necessary must be taken to ensure our little ones are protected. As for a couple of other NAMBLA Members – Salvatore Sicari and Charles Jaynes, they are now serving a life sentence in Massachusetts for the torture murder of Jeffery Curley. Unfortunately, they were in Massachusetts when they committed the offense. Were they in New York State, they would be in Greenhaven facing a date with a needle, which is where I would love to see them, along with a whole host of others. In addition to the criminal conviction, there was also a civil judgment for $328 million against the defendants – not that they’ll ever collect, but it does send out a signal to others who might get an idea about doing something stupid.

With Shanley’s arrest, perhaps we can get to the bottom of more of the molestation that is running rampant in the New England area. As one of the founding members of NAMBLA, perhaps in exchange for being kept out of general population, he can name names and in the process, provide the government sufficient evidence to declare NAMBLA a criminal organization subject to the RICO (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organization) Statute. In addition – if you will pardon the pun, by flipping Shanley, Geoghan and other homosexual priests in custody, the Church and its faithful can begin to repair the damage and once again reestablish the bonds of trust and confidence that are vital for effective function of the ministry.

At no time has that been more sorely needed than now, and it is only through facing this head-on that we can make the progress that is so sorely needed. ***
