In Memory of The Fallen 9-11-2001IN THE NAME OF GOD …

Timothy Rollins - Beneath the Surface Bernard Cardinal Law of Boston (AP)With more news of molestations by priests in America, the situation is beginning to look more and more like a 21st-Century version of the Inquisition where there was rape and pillaging all in the name of God. Only instead of having popes and cardinals (Bernard Cardinal Law of Boston, right) openly cheering them on like they did then, the cheering is going on in secret by those who pull the strings and set in place the homosexual subculture that has now become the openly homosexual culture within the ranks of the Catholic priesthood.

It seems the latest situation involving molesters wearing a clerical collar - for they are certainly not men of God, involves four rogues who were priests in the Detroit area at one time or another and were recently charged by prosecutors. Their ages are 83, 67, 64 and 60, with the oldest being branded by Wayne County (Michigan) Prosecutor Michael Duggan - a Roman Catholic himself - as "one of the worst pedophiles we have ever had in this state." The now retired priest Duggan referred to was Robert Burkholder, a man who while the Detroit Free Press placed the title Reverend in front of his name, I choose not and REFUSE TO on the grounds that Burkholder defiled his sacred calling by not only admitting he molested 23 boys dating back to 1949, but that he actively sought to evade responsibility for his crimes. This weasel isn't even a man; after all, the first rule soldiers learn at the NCO academy is to know themselves and seek responsibility for their actions.

In dismissing his criminal actions as "ancient history" and claiming, "it was a sickness" for which he got treatment, he effectively negates any admission of culpability. This is not an illness as much as it is a felony of the first magnitude regardless of what rationalization Burkholder may attempt as he tries to sell his own version of snake oil to whoever will listen.

The fact that there are now support groups networks for survivors of molestation by priests only goes to show the pervasiveness and deep-seeded rot with which the Catholic Church in America has been contaminated. To show just how ingrained this molestation is, there are at least 12 grand juries looking into these matters - and that doesn't include the smaller community investigations or special task forces that have been appointed to handle investigations in larger cities.

Fortunately, in the case of the Detroit investigations, prosecutors were able to go after these four on the grounds that their having left the state prior to the expiration of the six-year statute of limitations in effect at the time stopped the running of the clock and thus left open the door for prosecutors to go after these scum. Had the statute not expired, Duggan could have gone after 15 more priests, all but one of whom have left the ministry, with that one expected to be gone soon.

Though it's been said before in this column, it merits repetition: Pedophilia defies rehabilitation, and this writer has yet to come across one that has ever changed their stripes. As such, he believes the only penalty for one convicted of such a crime should carry only one penalty and that is DEATH.

If the Catholic Church has any hopes whatever of retaining any portion of its American membership base, it needs to forcefully address some serious issues and fast. Were the Church to drop its outdated issue of forced celibacy and allow priests to marry and have families, the likelihood of these lawsuits being the modern-day plague upon the Church would have never happened. The money spent on lawyers fees, out-of-court settlements and judgments could have been better spent on allowing what would have been otherwise fine men the privilege and blessing of marrying and having families of their own.

God commanded our first parents Adam and Eve to multiply and replenish the Earth. By denying priests this right - even their divine duty, it has allowed a homosexual climate to foster within the priesthood and to corrupt and defile what had once been looked to as a profession of trust, honor and integrity.

It's too bad such can no longer be said - either now or anytime soon. But, the only ones to blame are the Vatican hierarchy that failed to act in a timely manner to nip this problem in the bud and as such, they are now faced with their own version of Armageddon on their hands.

Which in its own way serves them right. ***
