TERRORISTS,
HOME GROWN
by Timothy Rollins, Editor and Publisher
With all of America worrying about the terrorists of al-Qaeda both at home and
abroad and with the recent victories both in Pakistan as well as the arrest
of six more men in the Buffalo, New York area, it is important for us as a people
to remember that we are just as much at risk from the nuts/terrorists of the
homegrown variety.
By this, one does not solely refer to the late and much unlamented Timothy McVeigh and his escapade of blowing up the Alfred Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City back in April of 1995. Beyond the immediate threat of those who hate America for being "the Great Satan", we also have those who for one reason or another are affiliated with groups that are dedicated to destruction within the country that often result in the deaths of innocents.
One of the prime examples of these terrorist groups is PETA - People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. Among the tactics this radical organization has used in the past is to publicly deplore the consumption of milk - this despite the almost unanimous recommendation within the medical community promoting its use, particularly among children.
In
addition to this stunt among others, they have funded and promoted others in
their efforts at terrorist causes to include the Environmental Liberation Front
(Craig Rosebraugh, right). This group has engaged in the destruction through
fire and bombing of facilities, resulting in millions of dollars of damages
as well as injury and death. By virtue of their support for this organization
and others like it, PETA is therefore a terrorist organization as well, and
should therefore have their tax exempt status revoked as well as have themselves
declared an enemy of the state by the Justice Department. Its officers who had
knowledge or even suspicions of what the benefactors of monies donated by PETA
were going to do with the money should be held as criminally liable as the eco-terrorists
themselves.
Perhaps then, some responsibility will begin to return to both the animal rights movement as well to the environmental community in seeking a legitimate balance between legitimate advances in medical science and progress in development in the communities across America. We are already fighting a war on one front with the fanatics of al-Qaeda on one front - we certainly don't need the zealots of PETA and their ilk to overfill our hands at the same time as well.
Barring that, we are in for some very rough times ahead. ***
