Second Request for Help
NOW THERE IS ANOTHER WAY

Writing
commentary is as much an exercise in frustration as it is a venting of pent-up
anger at the astonishing lack of common sense evidenced by our rulers and keepers
in Washington. In spite of clear, hard, evidence as to what is sensible and
what is not, our elected "representatives" and their appointed bureaucrats continue
to cave in to the emotional hand-wringing of the well-intentioned uninformed
and those enhancing their careers kowtowing to their misguided benevolence.
Occasionally, readers write me agreeing with the points I have made presenting examples of our out-of-touch government, and ask: What can we do to reverse the situation? Of course, the answer is: Very little. Our left-liberal media support anything that is un-American, since that which is most opposite of America translates to socialism which they vociferously support. With increasing private property confiscation by both the state and federal governments, our "democratic" socialism is turning into the ultimate socialist horror; namely, communism.
The NRA originated the observation that is now proving true, offering that when our Second Amendment is abolished, the rest of our freedoms will follow. Isn't this now beginning to happen?
We have a "war on drugs," and people falsely accused by criminals looking to lessen their prison terms upon conviction "give up" others they allege were partners in crime. Many of these individuals and their families are totally innocent, but the wall against government injustice has been breached, and search warrants and probable cause are no longer a problem for government. They just take what they want, and innocent citizens being robbed of their legally owned property are lucky if the trigger-happy goons don't murder them and their families.

Contrary
to the intent of our Founders, the federal government now employs a business
suit standing army of over 100,000 "enforcement" agents. The alphabet organizations
include the usual threats typical of a federal police force: the FBI, CIA and
BATF top the list. But there is also the IRS, Department of Education, Drug
Enforcement Agency, National Parks and Forestry, etc. Would you believe the
IRS has a SWAT team? They practice at a facility near my home. Now it may not
seem that these agencies are a standing army, but I'd like you to picture them
in their SWAT outfits.
With the exception of the CIA, who are the most likely targets of these heavily armed federal agencies? Considering the events of 9-11 and also that our federal protectors search eighty year-old grandmas, 75-year-old Congressmen with hip replacements, and children and toddlers while refusing sensible profiling of the most likely Arab suspects, the ranks of our federal protectors continue to grow uncontrollably. This will not bode well for either our tax rates or our freedoms.
The security restrictions now being enforced against us have converted our nation to a police state. Federal police and units of the United States military are working side by side in blatant violation of the 1878 Posse Comitatus Act. But what's the big deal? Clinton established the precedent in his lust to spill the blood of a peaceful commune of gun owners to teach America a lesson about the evils of firearms.
And that lesson will now continue under the Bush administration. As Liz Michael points out, there are only three ways to get this nation back on track: by voting errant politicians out of office, secession, or armed rebellion. But there is another way, and that is peaceful protest. Returning to my opening remarks, I too am disheartened when a way to resolve problems is the slow path of voting or writing to our "representatives." Now there is another way.
Last week, I appealed to you to follow my example and write an e-mail to the White House to appeal for arming pilots. Now, the Airline Pilots' Security Alliance [APSA], has provided an easy way to make your voice heard. They have arranged for an electronic petition on their website at http://www.secure-skies.org. Please go to the site and familiarize yourself with their organization.
This is a peaceful way to disagree with our leaders and let them know what "we-the-people" want. An organization by that name tried to confront the government as regards the legitimacy of the income tax. That organization was ignored - we were ignored. Let's all pull together on this, and maybe we can just start getting their attention and their cooperation.
For those who wish to go directly to the petition, although the pilots prefer you to read their material first, the site is: http://www.petitiononline.com/apsa/petition-sign.html ***
