3 October 1942: - the first successful launch of the German V2 rocket. This had great implications in the Allied/Axis race towards obtaining nuclear weapons and advanced rocketry.

23 October 1942: - the Battle of El Alamein, as part of the Allied invasion of North Africa.

25 October 1942: - the Japanese score a naval victory at the Battle of Santa Cruz. ***
