Carter Should Be Seen and Not Heard
by Dave Gibson, Columnist

February 13, 2003

Dave Gibson Jimmy Carter's ongoing attacks on President Bush and his policies have reached the point of lending aid and comfort to the enemy. Saddam Hussein has no better friend within the United States than Jimmy Carter. He is acting as if he should register as an agent for that despot nation.

Carter claims Saddam's ability to use weapons of mass destruction is "inconceivable". How naive can he possibly be? Iraq's possession as well as it's use of chemical and biological weapons has been well documented. Hussein refuses to account for not only the weapons which are known to the United Nations, but undoubtedly has created more and is now reportedly trying to acquire nuclear weapons. Will Jimmy Carter be the last to know?

Carter's policy of appeasement allowed our embassy in Tehran to fall and our people taken hostage by the Iranian 'students', as Carter ordered the Marines not to fire. His weak administration also allowed the Soviet Union to invade Afghanistan and ushered in the age of Arab-Muslim terrorism upon the U.S. as well as our allies.

At home, the Carter Presidency saw double digit unemployment and a prime interest rate of over 21%. On the world stage, America was kicked around as never before. He gutted our military and deleted our confidence. Jimmy Carter was without question the worst U.S. President of the 20th century. However, he was shocked when he lost to Ronald Reagan. Unbelievable!

It is practically unheard of for a former president to criticize the current one during a time of national crisis. Can anyone remember Gerald Ford or Richard Nixon commenting publicly about Carter's bungling of the Iran hostage crisis? Say what you will about either of those two gentleman, however both of them have something Carter seems to lack...class!

Several years ago, while in Haiti (sent there by Bill Clinton to offer the Haitian dictator a 'get out of town' deal), he proclaimed to the Haitian delegation :"I am ashamed to be an American". He later expressed some regret over that statement, however he had already allowed his true feelings to shine through.

Carter is a typical liberal (just as he showed by championing integration...while sending his own child to an exclusive, all-white private school). He is always ready to criticize, while offering no viable solution of his own.

Carter had his chance to make a difference as leader of the free world and he blew it. At least during this time of war, he should keep his mouth shut and keep building houses for the homeless. As a president...he makes a good carpenter! ***
