Growing Tired of Bush!
by Dave Gibson, Columnist

August 25, 2003

Dave Gibson President George W. Bush (R-TX) (Reuters)I have grown weary of President Bush and his brand of neo-conservatism. He appointed a liberal as Secretary of State (the same man who advised Bush 41 to pre-maturely end the first Gulf War), and a fascist as Attorney General. He along with John Ashcroft has turned our nation's airports into politically-correct, strip-search dungeons, where only middle-class white people seem to draw the focus of suspicion...God forbid any actual terrorist be offended!

Under the Bush administration, we have seen the Patriot Act, which among other things asked that the U.S. Postal Service turn our mail-carriers into spies! Does this sound like the act of a conservervative?

Let us not forget the incident when U.S. military personnel were being held hostage by communist China, after one of their fighter pilots rammed our plane, forcing it to land. Bush sent his apologist Colin Powell to the United Nations and said he was sorry so many different ways, he made Hallmark jealous. I believe Bush's weakness in handling that situation contributed to making the United States appear to be a 'pitiful giant' and may have actually hastened the 9/11 attacks.

Shortly after the Arab-Muslim terrorist attacks on this nation, Bush started visiting Muslim Mosques and constantly proclaiming Islam to be "a religion of peace"...Perhaps, he wasn't paying attention. Almost all of the 9/11 hijackers were Saudis, that nation continues to be a haven for terrorists yet Bush does nothing. If he were an honest man he would have included Saudi Arabia in his famous "Axis of Evil" list.

Bush with his Justice Department and new Homeland Security Agency is trying to rob this country's citizens of their freedoms...or what few freedoms we have left. A true conservative gives power back to the states and the people who pay the bills (i.e. the American taxpayers). Bush however, is over-seeing the biggest federal power-grab since the Civil War.

Bush to date has refused to protect this nation's border with Mexico, thus continuing the basically 'open door' policy of his predecessor. This nation is being invaded by a flood of illegals, as well as with drugs and quite possibly terrorists...Still Bush does nothing. He will never do that which is necessary in this struggle: to put troops along the Mexican border...He is too afraid of offending Latino-Americans, he is a typical politician!

When Bush chastises Israel for doing what is needed to protect itself against the Palestinian terrorists, he sends a message of hope to Israel's enemies. Israel is our one true ally in that region and we should be giving her not only our political but military support as well. That nation was fighting 'the war on terror' long before Bush Jr. came along. If Bush was serious about this "war"...On September 12, 2001, he would have signed a pact with Israel and together made our way through the Arab-Muslim world (the same way our grand-parents did through Europe 60 years ago). Instead, he has chosen to direct a politically-correct "war", being very careful not to offend those who would wish death upon this country.

Why isn't Bush directing the Senate Republicans to force the Democrats to carry out a real filibuster, instead of this weak effort on the part of Senator Charles Schumer (D-NY)? Why is President Bush leaving his appointees twisting in the wind? He refuses to fight for conservative nominees and even allows Schumer to openly discriminate against any Catholic judges! How does he expect to turn this country around and put forth conservative values if we cannot change the federal judiciary? It seems as though he doesn't care.

I know that I cannot be the only American who is sick of listening to Bush blather on and on about the necessity of making the streets of Iraq and Liberia safer. There are plenty of un-safe streets in this country that need our attention. Shouldn't the people who pay the bills receive first priority?

Unfortunately, Bush is not a reformer...He is simply a status-quo politician. The only thing that will keep Bush in office for another term is the weakness of his Democratic opponents. If he does not remove himself from the middle of the road, he will no doubt join the ranks of the lily-livered, mundane American politicians and in the process...Leave this country (just as with his appointees) swinging in the wind!

To President Bush: PLEASE WAKE UP! ***
