Part III: In My Opinion
I have always thought that PETA is a radical, over-the top group of leftists.
I also felt that many of their tactics (many of which do nothing except alienate
those they profess they are trying to reach) were nuts...I just never knew how
nuts, until I began to research this article.
I have volunteered my services over the years with many different animal welfare
groups (Norfolk SPCA, The Virginia Zoo, K-9 New Life Center). When it comes
to the treatment of animals...you will never find a softer heart than mine.
I also value life and that is why I am so outraged by PETA's actions. More healthy
cats have been killed in Hampton Roads, than by the area's 2,000,000 automobiles!
PETA's absurd antics and national shock campaigns such as "Got Beer",
which encouraged young people to stop drinking milk and start consuming more
alcohol, do nothing but make it harder on legitimate animal welfare groups to
raise much needed funds and recruit volunteers.
PETA places very little value on human life, I'm sure that comes as a shock
to no one. What should we expect from an organization whose co-founder and former
chairman (Alex Pacheco) was once quoted in July of 1989 by the New York Times
as having said "We feel that animals have the same rights as a retarded
human child because they are equal mentally in terms of dependence on others"?
PETA is actually opposed to the use of seeing-eye dogs by the blind! I must
admit that last one surprised even me.
The only way to reign in this crazed group is to hit them where it hurts the
most...the wallet. PETA has very deep pockets, most of the money is given by
wealthy celebrities (e.g., Paul McCartney). I am going to do my level best to
inform every Hollywood liberal about PETA's practice of 'feline-genocide'. Please,
may we all do everything we can to bring this insane group to it's knees. The
animals will actually thank you! ***
