DIRTY
TRICKS

In
what's a continuation of Bill Clinton's legacy, we have the Los Angeles Times
engaging in a 'dirty tricks' campaign that made anything Richard Nixon may have
done during Watergate 30 years ago look positively tame. By this, I refer to
the fact they sat on these stories of Governor-elect Arnold Schwarzenegger (R-CA,
right) groping a number of women over a period of 20+ years. Had Arnold been
a Democrat, these stories would have never seen the light of day, much like
the gargantuan efforts of the mainstream press to keep the names of Paula Jones,
Kathleen Willey, Gennifer Flowers and last but not least, Monica Lewinsky from
ever seeing the light of day. But no, they waited until such a time that they
thought they could inflict maximum damage on his campaign and hopefully derail
his election to the highest office in the state. Keep in mind that the last
one has gone on to become part of the American lexicon in much the same way
that "Borking" has become part of the lexicon on Capitol Hill; only
a "Lewinsky" has come to be referred as part of a crude sexual act
as described on an episode of NBC's "Law & Order: SVU" a couple
of years back.
Thankfully, the voters in the Golden State are smarter than the morons at the Times give them credit for. Readers retaliated by canceling their subscriptions by the thousands, and voters, many of whom had their minds made up long before heading to the polls and casting their votes, realized what the Times was up to and saw it for the smokescreen it was. Apparently, the Times, like many other newspapers in America, have forgotten that their purpose is reporting the facts and not distorting them. Like every other paper in America, they have an editorial and opinion section to place their opinions; it's not supposed to be in the hard news section.
Last week, Neil Cavuto of Fox News eloquently stated the hypocrisy of the mainstream media when he observed the selective reporting of the mainstream media and the chronic imbalance of not so much what they choose to report, but rather, what they choose to not report. The fact is even though almost three years have passed since the election that put President Bush in office, most of the media are still miffed that their boy lost, failing to realize that it was Gore's failure to carry his home state of Tennessee that cost him the election.
Much of America thought the departure of Bill Clinton would be the end of 'dirty tricks' either in Washington or on the American political scene. I have a hot flash for you. As long as we have either Senator Hillary Clinton (D-NY), America's shrill-in-chief in the picture or their human oil slick Terry McAuliffe, their puppet head of the Democratic National Committee, then the era of the 'dirty tricks' is alive and well. Having Dan Rather in the picture does not help either, given that he is the Bush family's personal anti-Christ.
The media is supposed to be balanced in their coverage. The only organization that comes close is FOX News. Looking around, we find NBC's Tom Brokaw is looking to retire and MSNBC's Brian Williams has pretty much told the network if he doesn't get Brokaw's slot when he retires, he'll walk. Over at CBS, the problems are far deeper. Wallace, Safer, Rather and Rooney are all over 70, and if memory serves, Wallace and I think Rooney are both over 80. Their bench is in very bad shape and all the old liberals are getting too old for the day-to-day grind. Case in point of liberal hypocrisy was Dan Rather saying 2000 would be his last election, only to have him sign a new six-year contract a couple of years later.
Why should he bother? With Jane Clayson filling in as his backup at age 36, she is able to give a good lengthy stint as anchor and has shown she is more than able to serve in that slot - or is it that she is not a bleeding heart liberal like you, Dan?
It won't be until the permanent removal and purging of the Clintons and their
minions - both in and out of the media - from American society, that America
can truly begin to heal from the era of slime and grime that so completely epitomized
the era and legacy of Bill Clinton - that, and the stain on Monica Lewinsky's
dress. ***
