Think About It
by April Shenandoah, Columnist

Columnist April Shenandoah We go rolling along in our very 'important' lives (so we think), and out of the blue we are broad-sided by unforeseen circumstances. Illness, financial problems, broken relationships, and bummer wars suddenly interrupt our happy, peaceful existence. That is the way life is designed. Without trials, we do not grow as individuals or as a nation. In times of stretching we tend to look closer at our families and at our own spirituality. Everything and everybody is in constant flux - in the process of getting better or worse. Nothing ever remains the same!

Saddam Hussein was living the life of luxury in his many palaces, controlling a country, when he had to high-tail it to his marble lined underground bunker/palace. By now, he is most likely being protected, and living in someone else's country. Osama bin Laden was forced to live in a cave with a kidney condition - conveniently appearing in videos, showered and wearing a spotless white robe with cell phone intact (Elvis and I with our "suspicious minds"). It is all a political game folks! The latest TV drama, Dead or Alive, tantalizes the viewers with the media's day by day, hour by hour, minute by minute, play - insulting what intelligence we have left. If either of them is ever found dead due to anything besides natural causes, I will rethink my political theories.

In today's world, those who think for themselves, have a better sense of the 'times' and what the probable scenarios are in a given situation. The majority of Americans have given themselves over to the media, the government, and to those around them to do their thinking for them. These ilk are oblivious to the evil forces at work, therefore, they take everything at face value, wearing rose colored blinders. So… we all do what we know, or think we know, and hopefully we do the best we can, with what we probably do not know at all.

Life is definitely a roller coaster ride - so we might as well grab a hold of the safety-bar and relax. The ride will be smoother when we thank God for everything, good and bad, he will bring us through it victoriously - in due time (His time). When we complain and grumble, our down and out times will last longer. When we are self-absorbed and think the world revolves around us, we are in for a rough landing. Hussein is a perfect example. Pride goes before a fall!

Regardless, of our shortcomings, including the dictators of the world, God loves us all. The Bible tells us to have compassion and pray for our enemies. However, God also warns us about being wise, concerning the company we keep. Some people need loved from a distance! When we come out from among those who drain us, and let go of negative and incompatible relationships, we will soar like an eagle. You and I cannot change people -- they are who they are. Which ones lift us up and which ones bring us down? Which ones encourage and which ones discourage? When we leave certain people do we feel better or worse? Stay clear of those who ALWAYS have a tragedy or drama going on. Do not share your dreams or secrets with negative or untrustworthy people. We are known by the people we hang with. These thoughts apply to us as individuals as well as our relationships with other nations. Think about it! ***
