California Election Games Have Begun

Go Gallagher!

According to the New York Times
(4/15/01) Arnold Schwarzenegger met with Bush advisors in 2001, about the prospect
of him running for governor in 2002. On April 12, 2003 as reported by the Washington
Post (4/13/03) Bush advisor Karl Rove met with Schwarzenegger in the White House,
Rove claimed politics was not discussed. I suspected sometime ago that Arnold
Schwarzenegger had been hand picked to be governor of California. It just seems
odd that he didn't run during the last election. Is this present recall debacle
some kind of setup or planned scenario? It will be interesting to see how this
plays out.
Even more interesting is the fact that our professed and very conservative Republican Congressmen have thrown their full support behind the terminator. The question is why? We have been told Schwarzenegger is fiscally conservative but socially liberal. If this is the case then he best explain the choice of his liberal financial advisors, namely Warren Buffett. Are California Republicans so starry-eyed that they are willing to turn away from their value based platform and elect the most liberal candidate that has ever been offered up? It doesn't make a lick of sense - it also doesn't make any difference, read on.
You Democrats who hate the Republicans and you Republicans who hate the Democrats - get a grip! At the end of the day they all go to dinner and make backroom deals. Many an unhappy voter has switched parties saying, "I didn't leave my party, my party left me." In the past, "party" deception was quite subtle, it is now blatant! Think about it - muscleman Schwarzenegger stands for most everything the democrats tout, yet they are bad mouthing him. What more proof do you need that the "game" of politics is just that? Perhaps we should feel honored that they spend so much time and energy planning all this "stuff" just for our benefit. It works, we sheepishly follow along doing their bidding and giving in to insane rules and regulations.
There are a few candidates running for Governor of California that are actually worth voting for, however, the media will virtually ignore them (as I am doing here). Bill Simon is a good guy, but he was strongly persuaded to drop out because Schwarzenegger is the "chosen one." When a candidate is selected to be the front runner of a party, there is a preconceived agenda behind the choice. If another candidate generates too much attention they will be dealt with one way or another, and will simply be unable to get their message out. Some candidates will garner an interview or two, but only because they provide a little sensationalism to the mix - such as porn star Mary Cook (Mary Carey) or child actor Gary Coleman. Arianna Huffington, who is quite likeable in person, is a pro at getting her own press but it never serves her well. My pick is (Leo) Gallagher!
Because of Gallagher's watermelon crushing image, he is not taken seriously. The people he allows in to his space see another side of him. This man is close to genius, and he doesn't take any guff from anyone. He's an inventor at heart. The outrageous props he uses in his act bare witness to that -- especially his derby hat that has a tiny train running around the brim, and little windows and doors that have a life of their own. Gallagher is a unique multi-talented, hoofing (tap), individual. During his visits to my Las Vegas ranch in the 70's, I remember being very impressed with the fact that he knew exactly who he was.
Gallagher is knowledgeable and capable, and not the type who would cave in to political strong arming. His comedic antics are the buffer between him and this troubled world we live in. There is much more to him than meets the eye, as there is with many people who have an image to overcome. Invariably, when an outsider runs for political office, people question their ability to lead, claiming they do not have the experience. HELLO! The ones with the so-called experience are the ones messing everything up! Years ago, "by the people, for the people" meant just that. The average working man ran for leadership positions, taking charge of their own cities and states. There was no such animal as a professional politician. It is time to elect the Gallagher's of the world once again! ***
