"Eye on Conservatism"

Columnist Robert YohoInterview with Randy Coleman, State Director of Military Affairs and Public Safety

Coleman said the family was "absolutely, adamantly not coming out to talk anymore." He did tell us that the military would be handling the arrangements for their reunion with Jessica. He said that the Mr. Lynch and his wife might not choose to go to Germany unless they could take the whole family along.

"He wants the family to go," Coleman said. "If they fly, they’ve never flown before."

He said the Sen. Jay Rockefeller was working to expedite the passport requirements. Also, Coleman informed us that Jessica was currently undergoing her second surgery, this time on her legs. He expected them to receive a phone call as soon as the outcome was known.

Interview with Greg Lynch Jr., brother of Private Lynch

When asked about her wounds, whether they occurred in transportation or by some other means:

"It’s just a speculation. It’s really hard to tell what happened over there. It’s just one of those things you’re going to have to ask her. And hopefully, she’ll be conformable talking about it."

When asked about the news from her and the doctors:

"It’s reassured the family a lot, just hearing her talking and hearing the doctors saying she’s doing all right. Her voice has changed from—you know—low to high pitched now. So it’s great news for the family.

"She’s coming around now. She wants to come home and spend some time. She wants to eat real food again."

When asked whether her family may—or may not—go to see her in Germany:

"It’s important for the family to assure her we’re behind her one hundred percent. But you also don’t want to push her into anything she’s not ready for. It’s a good thing, but it could also be a bad thing.

"I’m looking after her. She needs us all. I would go, but it’s important that Mom and Dad see her more than anybody.

"It’s important that you have people backing you up and not pressing you."

When asked about people calling her rescue a miracle:

"It’s definitely a miracle and she’s definitely a hero. So a miracle hero—if you want to call her that. She’s just great. It’s great to know that’s she’s doing all right. And it’s great to know that everyone supports her. She’s a strong woman and a great sister. You couldn’t ask for a better person. She just makes me look little."

When asked about the Iraqi citizen, whose information led to her rescue:

"It makes me feel good that there are people like that trying to help others. We need more people like that in the world. It’s great that our troops are over there working hard and trying to do right. And you’ve got people over there, trying to do right as well. So, it’s great news for us."

When asked about their eventual reunion:

"To see her—no matter where—would be great, face-to-face. The words I cannot even imagine. I’ll be speechless for a while." ***
