A Victory For Conservatives!
by Dave Gibson, Columnist

October 31, 2005

Dave Gibson While the withdrawal of the Harriet Miers nomination is a tremendous defeat for the Bush administration, it is a great victory for conservatives. We stared-down our liberal Republican president, and he blinked!

We as conservatives, cannot stop fighting until a truly conservative judge is placed upon the Supreme Court. The White House announced today that the new nominee to the high court is 3rd District Judge Samuel Alito. The latest nominee is a known quantity, has a deep respect for the U.S. Constitution, and unlike Miers--will not be swayed by the left.

Anytime a president makes a selection to the Supreme Court, such a decision has the potential to affect the social structure of this nation for the next two (or even three) decades. The future make-up of the court was the single most important issue of the 2004 election, it was the only reason why many conservatives bothered voting.

When Bush nominated Miers, usually silent and patient conservatives became as mad as hell and refused to take it anymore! It was time for us to remind the president that it was conservatives who put him in office, and that he works for us. George Bush owes his political life to the American Christian conservative movement. Unfortunately, the president tried to shirk his debt--we would not allow it.

Over the years, we (for better or worse) have certainly earned the title "The Silent Majority." By nature conservatives tend to be very patient and loyal individuals. It is difficult for us to confront a president whom we elected, in part because we have an incredible amount of respect for the Oval Office. Conservatives do not generally take to the streets, and at times it is to our own detriment.

Let this be a lesson to all Republicans: You can no longer simply take conservatives for granted. We have reached our breaking point amongst so-called homosexual rights, legalized abortion, Affirmative Action, and a half-hearted war effort. If the Republican Party (including the president) wants our support, they will have to earn it. We will never again watch in silence as our leader says "trust me," while we watch traditional values eroded.

Now the fight for Sam Alito will begin with the liberal Senators of the Judiciary Committee. We cannot wait! ***
