Then Let The Chocolate Covered Nuts Pay For It!

New
Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin (right) recently proclaimed that his city will be "a
chocolate city once again". He made the comment during a speech commemorating
Martin Luther King's birthday, in which he also said that God wants New Orleans
to be "a majority African-American city". Nagin's words represent
the first declaration of the twenty-first century of a well known public official
calling for a return to segregation. The Mayor made it very clear that white
folks were not welcome.
Mayor Nagin is the same man who ignored the warnings about the danger of Hurricane Katrina and allowed his city's poorest residents to become stranded. Who could ever forget the image of hundreds of New Orleans' school buses sitting in perfect rows in several feet of flood waters? The director of the National Hurricane Center - Max Mayfield - called Nagin at home a few days before the storm hit and stressed the seriousness of the situation and urged the mayor to evacuate the city. Of course, Nagin did not heed the warnings.
In the aftermath of Katrina, the nation witnessed savagery and chaos unseen in the United States since the Civil War. Stores and private homes were looted, women and children were raped, even hospitals were raided. Never before have rescue helicopters been fired upon over an American city. Almost overnight, New Orleans was transformed into Mogadishu.
Before Katrina hit, New Orleans was very much a "chocolate city," as the Mayor says. New Orleans was nearly 70 percent black. It was also very much a dysfunctional city. The murder rate was ten times that of the national average, more than a third of its citizens received public assistance, and the police force and local politicians have a long history of corruption. There are currently two former New Orleans police officers sitting on Louisiana's death row, as well as one on federal death row.
For many years, the "chocolate city" has more closely resembled a dirty corner of the Third World rather than a major American city. In 2004, New Orleans police and local university researchers conducted a rather disturbing and telling experiment. Police officers shot 700 blank rounds in one of the city's black crime-ridden neighborhoods. All 700 rounds were fired in one afternoon. Not one phone call was placed to 911 operators to report the gunshots!
Just like other race pimps the likes of Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, etc., Mayor Nagin does not truly care for black people. Nagin places his own interests above all others. The only reason he wants black residents to return to New Orleans is so they can vote for him again. The city currently has a white majority. After Katrina, New Orleans exported much of its criminals and lazy ( Nagin voters) to their cities. The fact that Nagin moved to Dallas and enrolled his child in Dallas schools right after Katrina struck has to leave one wondering whether or not he would have come back had the Bush administration not got the city back up on its feet so quickly.
There are really two stories in Mayor Nagin's comments. It is unbelievable that in 2006 a mayor of a major U.S. city would declare his city for only one race of people. Nagin's words were not an example unadulterated, hateful, ignorant RACISM (Yes, blacks can be racists too!). There has not been one word of condemnation from the NAACP, nor the Congressional Black Caucus directed towards Nagin. The real story is the fact that the only place where blatant racism is still openly practiced and accepted is within the black community.
Do you think that a white politician could get away with such separatist comments? However, Nagin is a black Democrat--so he gets a pass!
If Nagin and his supporters want New Orleans to become a "chocolate city again," thus only blacks will be welcomed in the city--white taxpayers should not be forced to pay a dime for the reconstruction. Nagin has made his wishes for a 'blacks only' city and with their silence--the black community has shown their approval.
Perhaps Kanye West could hold a series of concerts for the construction of this new black utopia! ***
