NATION OF LAWS

NOTE: In light of legitimate concerns raised over the original version
of this column, I have chosen to replace as well as update it with this revised
version. I believe this version is far more explanatory and will raise fewer
questions. The deeper analysis of this issue is such that I have chosen to break
it down into three parts, each of which will run separately as part of a series.
I hope you enjoy reading it, and welcome your feedback by your clicking on the

II. THE IMMIGRANTS THEMSELVES - LEGAL AND ILLEGAL
The Statue of Liberty is known for saying "Give me your poor, your huddled masses." It did not say, "Send us the criminally undesirable as well." It did not give license to other countries to export their human repellent - we have enough of our own, thank you very much. This is one of the reasons criminal background checks are done on those seeking to enter the United States legally. Other countries are entitled to screen their prospective immigrants; we are entitled to do no less. It is vital to remember that yes, we are a nation of immigrants; however, our ancestors came in America through the front door, and were welcomed as such as our newest Americans. There was - back then - a respect for both the law as well as for the sanctity of life, because we are, and always have been a nation of laws. Such considerations went out the window sometime in the 1970's, as these values on which the bedrock of American Civilization was founded, and which now seems to be totally absent with the flood of illegals crawling, or rather, pouring in through our southern border or more accurately, the complete lack of one.
The key thing to remember here - again - is that we have a small minority that is being extremely vocal, drowning out the voices of reason as well as other voices advocating obedience to established laws. These misguided persons with their twisted mentality play the race card whenever anyone has the audacity to challenge them, their motives, or the illegal actions they advocate. The fact that senators and other politicians are lining up to pander for their votes, despite the fact that these illegals are not citizens and cannot vote to begin with, only goes to show how fundamentally flawed and inherently corrupt these politicians are. These humps (defined as Fool, Idiot, or Jerk. A derogatory term used especially by 2nd generation New York Italians to denounce other Caucasians) are more interested in short term gain at the expense of all of us, even if that sacrifice costs us our very freedom.
We have here in America four classes of people who come to our country. The first class of visitors consists of vacationers and business travelers on trips of varying lengths of time. Also included with this group are foreign students attending universities in the United States. The second class involves those who are migrating to the United States legally, and who have the appropriate documentation and authorizations in place. The third class of people would be the economic refugees who enter the country illegally without proper paperwork, and in many but not all cases, stealing American jobs because they will do the job for less pay and save the employer the expense of worker's compensation, insurance and other proper occupational expenses and benefits. Also to consider here is the fact that when these people get hurt, they do not file a report against their employer for fear of either reprisal or even worse, the arrival of Immigration officers. Not to mention that they get health care for free while picking the taxpayer's pocket at the same time. And to complete the unethical trifecta, they then collect welfare and other benefits without having paid into it. Consequently, we have a whole segment of society being exploited here. They present a drain on our national treasury; this is exacerbated by the decision not too long ago by President Bush - in schmoozing Vicente Fox of Mexico - to start paying Social Security to those persons who have not paid into it, as if Mexico would return the favor. Yeah, right. When hell freezes over.
The fourth class of people would be those of the terrorist persuasion whose only purpose for being here is to kill as many of us as possible, preferably in one shot. If they choose to use a weapon of mass destruction such as another Boeing Jet or worse - an atomic bomb - and with plenty of them available on the black market, we may well find ourselves at their mercy because our elected officials will not employ emergency measures designed to protect both our national sovereignty as well as the way of life so many men and women have died for over the last 230 years in protecting and defending. The operative question here is not which politicians are in bed with the communists, terrorists and other whack jobs. The real question here is which ones - if any - aren't.
The pilgrims that arrived on the Mayflower, as well as those who sailed over in the ensuing years, came in part, to exercise religious freedom. The Founding Fathers-if they were alive today-would be disgusted to see how political correctness is destroying those very vestiges of freedom. These brave Americans did not die solely so we could be destroyed from within. At the rate they are headed, the actions promoted by illegals and their advocates as well as through terrorists entering our shores, the underpinnings of our society will be destroyed completely.
Please understand something here as it pertains to my own personal feelings on immigrants: Family class immigrants aside in a class of their own with special provisions, I am one who supports fairly liberal immigration policies, subject to what the law allows, and based on the need for jobs to be filled. These people from south of the border - or anywhere else in the world - cannot and must not be given carte blanche to overrun the foundation we have had as a nation of laws for over 230 years. Whatever action needs to be done - within the framework of the law - must be done in order that our children and grandchildren may enjoy the same freedoms we have known in our lifetimes. Otherwise, it will all be for nothing.
Tomorrow, we will look at solutions to the problem. ***
